Chelsea and her husband adopted two children through the foster care system in 2022. At the time, they didn’t realize they qualified as a special need’s adoption exemption, so they amended their 2022 and 2023 tax returns at the end of 2024 to reflect the change. After months of waiting for an update from the IRS, they contacted Senator Slotkin’s office for help in October 2025. My constituent service team contacted the IRS and was able to get their tax returns amended with no issue.
“Even through the government shutdown, they gave us updates on our case and when we were should expect the next point of contact. Senator Slotkin’s office is helpful, communicative, and proactive- a valuable asset to ALL Michiganders!” – Chelsea, Michigan
