WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) took to the floor of the Senate to pass by unanimous consent a bill to fund TSA and ensure hardworking airport security workers get paid. The measure was blocked by Senate Republicans.
This marks the eighth occasion that Senate Republicans have refused to reopen agencies within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Slotkin has called for funding other agencies within DHS except for ICE, citing the need for serious ICE reforms after two Americans were killed.
In her remarks on the floor Slotkin stated Republicans are: “holding all of those [other] agencies hostage because of ICE.”
Slotkin continued: “… the American public, Democrat, Independent and Republican does not like American citizens being killed in our streets They do not like going into a home without a judicial warrant. They don’t like people, children being taken and tear gassed and caught in the crossfire… pulling people out of cars and getting into dangerous situations, people being targeted.”
“Set ICE aside. Fund everything else today.”
