WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) released the follow statement after voting against the confirmation of Todd Blanche to be U.S. Attorney General.
“Today I voted no on the confirmation of Todd Blanche to be Attorney General. Instead of standing up for the rule of law or demonstrating any sense of independence, Blanche has repeatedly chosen to go along with President Trump’s weaponization of the Justice Department.
“On Blanche’s watch, the Department of Justice tried to criminally indict me and my colleagues over a 90-second video that simply restated the law. He has gone after others, from the Olympic Medalist who stuck his hand in the reflecting pool, to the New York Attorney General, to his own former FBI Director, James Comey. He also tried to jam through the President’s $1.7 billion weaponization fund, which would be an unprecedented misuse of taxpayer money.
“Blanche is unfit to be our Attorney General for many reasons, but the most important is that he refuses to ever break ranks from his boss, President Trump, even if it flies in the face of the law.”
Slotkin was targeted by President Trump’s Justice Department and faced a failed indictment over a 90-second video with Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ), and Representatives Jason Crow (D-CO), Chris DeLuzio (D-PA), Maggie Goodlander (D-NH) and Christy Houlahan (D-PA).
Slotkin also helped lead the Drain the Slush Fund Act, which would have stopped President Trump’s so-called $1.7 billion weaponization fund.
