WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) today released the following statement regarding the Trump Administration’s weakening of the Environmental Protection Agency’s clean water rule aimed at reducing forever chemicals.

“In Michigan, clean water isn’t partisan – it’s our heritage. It is about our community and our economy. Our drinking water. Our kids being able to swim in our lakes and rivers. And the Trump Administration’s rollback of protections to curb these harmful chemicals will make our drinking water less safe.

“Case in point is in Oscoda, Michigan. For years, this community has fought tooth and nail to get the Air Force to cleanup forever chemical contamination that was poisoning their water. And they are sick and tired of roadblocks, red tape and inaction.

“We’ve made real, bipartisan progress on PFAS over the last few years, and it has been a real priority for me, including the push for the EPA to set a standard that keeps people safe. For all those Michiganders who’ve worked on this issue, I know this is a gut punch. I urge you to stay in the fight, I am right there with you.”
