Tour Requests
Welcome to Washington, D.C.!
If you are planning a visit to the nation’s capital, our office is happy to help you set up tours at one of several federal landmarks including the United States Capitol Building, the White House, and the Treasury Department.
During your trip, you may also be interested in scheduling a tour at the Washington Monument, National Museum of African American History and Culture, Library of Congress, National Archives, or visiting the other Smithsonian Museums, National Cathedral, and Arlington National Cemetery. Check out the links for each of these sites to find more information and schedule a visit.
Capitol Tours
Capitol tours are led by Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) tour guides or by someone on our staff. When considering your Capitol tour dates, please note that tours led by Capitol Visitor Center tour guides are offered Monday through Saturday from 8:50 AM to 3:20 PM except on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Inauguration Day. Our staff are available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, excluding federal holidays. Visitors are also welcome to pick up Senate and House gallery passes from our office. The Senate and House galleries are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and passes do not need to be reserved. The tour coordinator will reach out to you between two and four weeks before your requested Capitol tour dates to confirm your tour.
White House Tours
The White House generally offers tours Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM as well as Friday and Saturday from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM, excluding federal holidays or unless otherwise noted. These tours have limited capacity and must be requested 7 – 90 days in advance. Submitting requests for White House tours 90 days or more in advance is recommended, especially for visits during peak seasons (school breaks, Cherry Blossom season, and winter holidays). Tours are subject to sudden cancellations and alterations under White House discretion. Given the limited quantity and high demand for White House tours, the tour coordinator will reach out to you within a week of submitting a White House tour request.
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Tours
The FBI generally offers tours Monday through Friday at 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 2:00 PM. Tours are not available on federal holidays or weekends. These tours are limited to 30 people per group and must be requested no later than 5 weeks before your trip/preferred date. Requests for FBI tours can be submitted up to 5 months in advanced and it is highly recommended to make your requests as soon as possible. Visitors should arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled tour time to allow for security processional and visiting the gift shop. If you are late, you will be turned away and will have to reschedule your tour. The tour is designed to last between 60 and 90 minutes. The tour coordinator will reach out to you within a week of submitting a FBI tour request.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) Tours
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) offers tours to the general public on Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, every 30 minutes. The BEP also offers congressionally requested tours on Monday through Friday at 8:15 AM and 8:45 AM. Congressionally requested tours must be requested at least 14 business days before your tour date. There is no difference between the congressionally requested tours and the publicly available tours. You can check the latest information about public tours on the Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s website. For congressionally requested tours, the tour coordinator will reach out to you within two weeks of submitting a BEP tour request.
Treasury Department Tours
The Treasury Department offers tours on the first and third Saturday of each month, except for certain holiday weekends and Treasury events. Tours are conducted at 9:00 AM, 9:45 AM, 10:30 AM, and 11:15 AM. Each tour lasts about an hour and accommodates up to 15 participants. The tour coordinator will reach out to you within a week of submitting a Treasury Department tour request.
Supreme Court Tours
The Supreme Court is open for public viewing on Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, excluding federal holidays. The Court also offers courtroom lectures that present an overview of the judicial functions of the Supreme Court, the history of the building, and the architecture of the courtroom. These lectures are only available when the Court is out of session and are typically scheduled at 12:30 PM. These lectures are open to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis. More information about when these lectures occur, and further logistics can be found on the Supreme Court’s website. The tour coordinator will reach out to you within two weeks of submitting a Supreme Court courtroom lecture request.
