WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) released the following statement ahead of the September 30 government funding deadline:
“Today, I am voting against the Republican Continuing Resolution. This temporary funding bill had no input from Democrats, and I’ve said repeatedly, if you want my vote, you have to come talk to me.
“Since July, I have been very clear: any conversation about my vote needs to start with health care. President Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ will result in every single Michigander either losing their health care or paying more than they already have.
“Letters from insurance companies have started going out to Michiganders with a 10-20 percent increase in their health care bills starting January 1. And it is my responsibility to at least push for these costs to be addressed.
“Republicans control the White House, Senate, and the House, so I understand that negotiations won’t yield everything I want. But serious adults can sit down, negotiate in good faith and pass a budget.
“The President has shown time and again that he thinks he can do whatever he wants, in violation of the Constitution. So whatever deal is eventually struck, I’ll need to see the details laid out in black and white.”
